Year 4 have made a fantastic start to the year and we are so proud of their achievements. The children have settled back into normal school life very well and all continued to follow the school rules. They have worked re-ally hard in all lessons, showing resilience, perseverance, engagement and motivation to learn. Keep it up next half term Year 4!

In maths we have been using practical equipment to help us understand the place value of numbers up to 10,000! We have placed these num-bers on number lines, ordered, com-pared and rounded them! We have also looked at using formal written methods to add and subtract 4 digit numbers. The children have used all of their St Bede’s Sparks to help them solve difficult problems and explain their reasoning.

We used the produce which we harvested from our class allotment to make sweetcorn and courgette fritters in food technology; they were delicious.

We have been learning about volcanoes and earth quakes in   Geography!

We created our own volcanic eruptions and then designed and built houses, before testing to see whether they could withstand an earthquake.

Our RE topic this half term has been all about families. We have explored our own family trees and discussed how all families are different. We used scripture to learn about Jesus’ family tree and are now able to describe some ways in which characters in the Bible lived out their lives.

We have had so much fun learning about states of matter and testing the properties of solids, liquids and gases in science. We tested the melting point of chocolate and found out how much gas was in different fizzy

n Literacy this half term we have enjoyed reading the BFG and writing our own Roald Dahl inspired dreams. We made dream jars and had an ice cream experience day to help us really get into role.

This half term we have developed our Rugby skills and our problem solving skills during Commando Joes ses-sions. We have enjoyed working as a team to over-come obstacles and learnt how to communicate with each other in order to be successful in our missions. Bear Grills, watch out!
