Year 6 Newsletter Date October 2021

Year 6 have had a very busy half term so far with a trip to Howtown and getting to grips with life in Year 6. Over the course of this half term, we have worked hard to get back into daily school life and have become great role models for the younger children in school by setting good examples of how to walk round the building and at lunchtime, as well as becoming buddies for Reception children.
During week four, we were lucky enough to visit Howtown in the Lake District —which was an amazing experience. Whilst there, we: climbed waterfalls, swam in the lake, climbed mountains and took part in a range of other activities (some of which took place in the dark). Faye Heatley stated that her favourite activity was climbing up the mountain because it was loads of fun and we had to work as a team to reach the top, where there was some amazing views to be seen. Another member of Year 6, Tyler Carr said that his favourite activity of the week was swimming and of course jumping in the lake because the water was cool and refreshing and it is not something that I would have normally done.
While some children were away at Howtown, those of us left behind let our imaginations run wild as we discovered a new island with many new spe-cies of flora and fauna! We used map skills to navigate our islands and our science knowledge to classify the our new discoveries.
This half term we have been looking at unconditional love and the different ways in which God loves us unconditionally, as well as the ways we can show unconditional love to those around us. As a class we have shared our own experiences of unconditional love and the effects that this has had on our lives and the lives of those around us. Currently we are studying Islam and looking at why the Five Pillars of Islam are im-portant to Muslims and the impact that the Pillars have on their daily lives.
In Science we have been learning about the impact of electricity and how it has changed the world in which we live. We have looked at and used the scientific symbols for the components in a circuit and are currently investigating if different lengths of wire effect the components in a circuit.
In English, we have been reading Kensuke’s King-dom and practicing a range of writing techniques, such as using metaphors and similes to create im-ages in our reader’s mind. During one of our ex-perience days, we researched Haiku poems and then created our own about a storm
This half term Year 6 have been honing their swimming skills at Blyth Sports Centre, where they have been practicing a range of swimming strokes including backstroke and front crawl. Some of Year 6 have even working hard on their diving skills.
